Some possible causes of sleep disorders are:
1. Lifestyle Factors
Use of drugs
Caffeine intake
Smoking
Shift work
Jet lag due to travelling
2. Environmental Factors
Noise such as passing airplane, TV, music, cars, alarm, etc
Too much light in the room
Extreme room temperature
3. Physical Factors
Headache
Body pain
4. Psychological Factors
Depression
Stress
Worries
If you are suffering from any one of these symptoms and find that you cannot function normally during the day, speak to your parents, teacher or your family doctor. It is good to get help early if you are unable to sleep properly before it begins to affect your health.
What you can do to help yourself:
Regular exercise during the day
Relax before bedtime – drink something warm (without caffeine or alcohol), take a warm shower, do some relaxation exercise.
Avoid strenuous activities at bedtime
Avoid alcohol, caffeine or other stimulants.
Use your bed only for sleeping and sexual activity.
Maintain a regular sleep schedule.
Avoid naps.
Avoid reliance on sleeping pills or tranquilisers.
