With the rise in the use of social media, connectivity between people has increased. It is even used as a means for suicidal people to reach out to others for help. Yet, fatal outcome has occurred in instances where suicidal messages that are posted on social media are ignored or taken in jest.
We should take heed that these people feel hopeless and isolated, and that social media might be the only platform where they are able to communicate and express such dark thoughts. In some way, social media also allows them to observe the possible reactions of others to their suicidal thoughts. This cautions us, as public, not to trivialise these messages.
