    The majority of us might have suspected the local stigma towards mental health to be prevalent, but how bad is bad?

    A nationwide mental health study conducted by the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) found that only 31.8% of respondents with mental health issues are seeking professional help- which means a staggering proportion of those affected are not seeking treatment.

    Of those affected, the time taken to seek professional help measures by years on average, with depression having an average of four years. These figures while alarming, should serve to inform us about the truth behind the “local stigma” we so often hear of, and that more could be done to de-stigmatise mental health in the local scene.
